Protestants for the Common Good (PCG) is an education and advocacy organization, which calls upon people of faith to relate their discipleship to matters of public policy and community life. Our Common Good Agenda defines our work as the intersection of faith with the critical issues of political access, economic justice, public education, criminal justice, health care, the environment, and global affairs. The quest for economic justice and political access stand at the heart of the Common Good Agenda and provides the framework for our planning and practice.
The 2011 Beatitudes fellow will work with outreach and policy staff members to expand the capacity of PCG’s Advocacy Network, engage laity and clergy in legislative and community advocacy, and explore justice and social change ministries. Job responsibilities will include tasks and projects in three areas:
- Research on policy priorities and voting records of legislators in key districts along with results of organization’s 2011 legislative initiatives
- Recruitment of lay and clergy persons to join the Advocacy Network, respond to faith-in-action alerts on critical policy issues, participate in coalition and public witness activities
- Relationship-building interactions with legislators, church leaders, and community residents on policy issues and advocacy strategies in key geographic areas of the state.
Skills Required:
• Curiosity about the intersection of faith and public life;
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Capacity for problem solving and new approaches;
• Competence in balancing team work with independent tasks/goals;
• Ability to manage the details of “big picture” projects;
• Basic knowledge of online research methods.
