While growing up I would hear my grandmother say “The Lord sho’ works in mysterious ways.” As I experienced life’s ups and downs, I began to agree and understand more and more what grandmother meant. In fact, as a member of The Beatitudes Society, Howard University, Washington DC Chapter, I found myself not just agreeing but repeating those words time and time again.
Prior to joining The Beatitudes Society, I had been praying and asking God for clarity in reference to my call. During this time, I was introduced to The Beatitudes Society by Rev. Howard. Although my schedule was full, I exercised faith and joined without hesitation. As a result, I attended The Ecumenical Days Conference, where I met and networked with individuals who are actively doing the “work.” I received awesome grassroots community organizing training, ultimately receiving tools which I have used and will definitely use in future endeavors.
What's more, through The Beatitudes Society I was awarded a summer fellowship at People For the American Way Foundation (PFAW), African American Religious Affairs Department, in Washington, DC! My experience at PFAW has been life altering. As a result, I better understand my call and I am more determined to answer it. When I think about the way in which God used an organization in California to connect me with an organization in DC I am amazed. I have been offered opportunities that if I had not been in this place at this particular time they may not have occurred.
With gratitude and praise, I thank God for the opportunity and all I can say is “God sho’ works in mysterious ways.”
