Pace e Bene Fellowship
As a 2011 Beatitudes Society fellow, you will assist the implementation of Stage II of Pace e Bene’s Nonviolent Option Project. This project is a multi-year program in Oakland, CA designed to support the emergence of urban youth leadership and engagement for personal and social change through workshops and nonviolent action. In this project, Pace e Bene collaborates with its principle partner Hip Hop Caucus and with a series of community-based organizations to support nonviolent alternatives through three integrated phases:
Phase I: Listening -- Video interviews of urban youth on the realities of violence and the potential for nonviolent change (2010)
Phase II: Skill-Building -- Training for nonviolent change (workshops led by the community-based Nonviolent Options Training Team; supporting multiplication of workshops and peer mentoring) (2011-2012)
Phase III -- Movement-Building: Strategies for nonviolent change (supporting an emergent movement for nonviolent personal and social change focused on key needs, objectives, policy solutions identified by the participants and community) (2012 ff).
Project Description:
In Summer 2011, you will be working you will assist Pace e Bene and the Nonviolent Options Task Force with implementing Phase II by:
- Setting, organizing and preparing for workshops, including outreach, logistics, and agenda setting
- Playing a part in facilitating workshops
- Undertaking workshop follow-up, assessment, documentation, and publicity
Skills Required:
- Interest in peace, justice, and nonviolent change
- Some experience facilitating groups helpful
- Solid interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Able to write and edit stories (about workshops) for print and online publication
- Abie to work independently and to prioritize and follow through on multiple tasks
