Jubilee USA Fellowship
Jubilee USA Network is an alliance of more than 80 religious denominations and faith communities, human rights, environmental, labor, and community groups working for the definitive cancellation of crushing debts to fight poverty and injustice in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Our small office of four full-time staff and two full-time volunteers gives the Fellows an in-depth opportunity to be a part of the workings of a small faith-inspired grassroots organization.
Description:
The Fellow can expect to be a vital and respected part of the team. We can shape the Fellow’s experience to fit her/his skill sets and passions. Jubilee is involved in a number of working groups on a range of issues, in addition to our core work on debt cancellation and just economic policies. The issues include climate change, immigration, International Financial Institutions, Vulture Funds, and more.
Fellows can expect hands-on experiences such as: daily interaction with our network of progressive faith groups, denominational leadership offices, and advocacy partners in D.C; opportunities to meet with professionals from partner organizations like Sojourners, Bread for the World, the ONE Campaign, Network, American Friends Service Committee, and TransAfrica Forum, among many other advocacy and church aid organizations.
The Beatitudes Fellow will:
• Work closely with the National Field Organizer (NFO) to:
• Aid NFO in carrying out Jubilee’s strategic grassroots organizing plan to support Jubilee’s legislative goals
• Aid NFO in developing new contacts for potential Jubilee Congregations or Jubilee Chapters
• Writing outreach and education materials for Jubilee supporters, including writing and updating our Congregations Handbook
• Assist in drafting blog entries and email blasts for Jubilee supporters
• Provide administrative support including:
• Maintain Jubilee’s communications and advocacy databases
• Data entry: Entering new supporters, and updating existing supporters in our databases
Skills Required:
Applicants should have strong written and verbal skills, attention to detail, a passion for working on global justice issues, have knowledge of issues of debt and economic globalization. Self-motivation and flexibility is important. Experience working with faith communities and social justice organizations is highly recommended. Familiarity with computer programs such as MS Excel, and Word is desired, and the ability to work as part of a team is necessary.
Unique Opportunities:
Because of our strategic location in DC there are endless opportunities to attend panels on policy issues, congressional briefings, and lobby visits to Capitol Hill. While fellows are in DC we encourage them to take advantage of these opportunities, and to meet with organizations that they might wish to work with in the future.
