Interfaith Worker Justice Fellowship

Description:
The Beatitudes Society Fellow will be engaged in resource development and outreach to congregations, local interfaith groups, and workers centers, particularly around the issue of immigration. The Fellow will create religious resources, including sample liturgical materials, for congregational use. The Fellow will review, update, and promote Interfaith Worker Justice’s For You Were Once a Stranger resource. The Fellow will reach out to groups around the country to research what they are doing to promote immigration reform. Additionally, the Fellow will coordinate IWJ’s Immigration through the Lens of Faith training that will occur in late July. In collaboration with other members of the IWJ Organizing Department, the Fellow will assist with logistics, outreach, materials, speakers, and workshops for the training.

Skills Required:
Fellows interested in working at Interfaith Worker Justice will posses the following skills:
•    Ability to work independently
•    Strong written and verbal skills
•    Basic knowledge of immigration issues
•    Organizational and planning skills
•    Capacity to meeting deadlines
•    Ability to interact with diverse groups of people of faith

Other preferred, but not required, skills:
•    Spanish language skills
•    Familiarity with organizing methodologies

Interfaith Worker Justice provides its interns with a variety of experiences. Below is a sample of the kinds of activities IWJ’s Fellows engage in:
•    Attending a week-long organizing training in Chicago
•    Connecting with IWJ’s Summer Interns
•    Supporting worker organizing campaigns or public policy efforts
•    Networking with and engaging national religious leaders committed to social justice and change
•    Expanding knowledge and experience of various faith traditions, including Christian, Muslim, and Jewish
