Our Neighbors In Haiti
When the young lawyer asked Jesus "who is my neighbor?" Jesus didn't offer a philosophy about love, or a political treatise about tribal distinctions or the boundaries of the neighborhood. He told a story, the story of the Good Samaritan, (Luke 10), and ever since, we've known that we are the ones, each one of us, who are to be a neighbor. We are the ones, and now is the time. Our neighbors in Haiti need us more than ever. Through the extraordinary good work of Doctors without Borders or Partners in Health, we can be neighbors. Many faith-based and international aid organizations are doing fine work as well, and we’ve included a partial list below.
And this is also the time for our nation to be a neighbor by granting temporary protected status to Haitians living in the United States. You can take action by asking President Obama to order the Department of Homeland Security to immediately halt all forcible deportations to the disaster zone and grant temporary protected status to undocumented Haitian refugees in the U.S. To take action, click here.
Organizations who need your help so they can help bring relief to the people of Haiti
The State Department has worked out a deal by which you can donate $10 to the Red Cross with your cell. All you have to do is send a text "HAITI" to "90999" and a donation of $10 will be given automatically (and charged to your phone bill) to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts.
