Fired Up!

Fired up!

From the Executive Director, The Rev. Anne S. Howard

Dear Friends,

As things at The Beatitudes Society are winding down for the semester and cranking up for the summer (and beyond!) we wanted to be in touch to let you know about 3 great opportunities.

If you are a recent graduate ~OR~ a current seminary/div school student, you need to know about The Beatitudes Society Professional Network and the Emerging Leaders Project.

1. The Beatitudes Society is developing a Professional/alum Network. As a member, you will help build a cross-denominational, multi-ideological network of prophetic Christian leaders dedicated to implementing the Beatitudes in our local, national and world communities. The Professional Network provides members access to:

  • connections to each other through a private email list of plugged-in Beatitudes Society members (informal sharing of ideas, jobs, causes)
  • a book of your choice
  • eligibility for scholarships, including a preaching workshop and Emerging Leaders Project
  • be in the loop for parish, non-profit and other job openings
eligibility for an annual service / learning trip

Join by May 15 to get everything above, plus Del Brown's new book: What Does a Progressive Christian Believe?

2. The Emerging Leaders Project, a conference sponsored by the Plymouth Center for Progressive Christianity, is an opportunity for seminarians and recent seminary grads to strengthen their leadership skills for work in congregations, seminaries, civic, and political communities by sharing a mentorship weekend with experienced Christian leaders. 15 scholarships are available. Click HERE to read more about it and to apply.

3. SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY::Camp Wellstone Training for Faith Leaders
If you are a Faith Leader living in or near Chicago IL, Washington DC, or Berkeley CA (San Fran Bay Area), you are invited and encouraged to attend Camp Wellstone Community Organizing Training. We are providing this training for our Summer Fellows, and we invite colleagues, area clergy, Beatitudes Society student members and alums, and other Faith Leaders to join in. Student fee $10/Professional fee $20.

  • July 15 in Chicago IL
  • July 17 in Washington DC
  • July 24 in Berkeley CA

Sample topics to be explored in this one-day training session are:

  • Developing and Communicating your Message
  • Building the Base/Building Effective Coalitions
  • Finding Common Ground: Issues, Interest, Values
  • Progressive Leadership - Getting and Being the Leaders We Deserve

Click HERE to learn more and to register.

And finally, we are so excited about our most pressing opportunities for Beatitudes Society members: Twenty-eight students are about to hit the road as participants on the second annual Service Trip to the Gulf Coast and as Beatitudes Society Summer Fellows. Be prepared to hear soon how the world is being turned upside down by these imaginative and inspired students. You’ll be introduced to the Summer Fellows in next month’s newsletter.

Until then, in Christ’s peace,
Anne
