About The Summer Fellowships

  • The Program:  The Beatitudes Society sponsors Fellows to work as interns at social change organizations.  Fellows serve at a site in one of the clusters: San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Atlanta, or DC.  There will be other Beatitudes Fellows in your cluster city.
  • 2011 Dates:  June 6 - July 29.  Updated position descriptions for Summer 2011 will be available in Fall 2010.
  • Eligibility:  Anyone in seminary is eligible to apply - even those graduating before the Fellowships begin.  Applicants must be Student Members of The Beatitudes Society and must be enrolled in seminary or divinity school to apply. Join online here - it's FREE.  (If you've ever joined before, you're eligible.)
  • Weekly Meetings:  All Fellows attend a Weekly Meeting with their group mentor, following a small group study exploring the links between social change advocacy, Progressive Christianity and spiritual practice.  The Weekly Meetings provide a place for sharing concerns, theological reflection and synthesis of the internship work experience.
  • Auburn Media Training:  All Fellows participate in a 1-day Auburn Media Training Workshop, a tailored training program to prepare religious leaders and laypeople for communicating effectively with the media.

Logistics

  • Fellows will receive a $3,000 stipend from The Beatitudes Society to help cover travel, housing, and living expenses.
  • Selected Fellows are responsible for securing and paying for their own housing.  We have a list of housing options to help with this process.

Application Process

  1. Read about each Fellowship position.
  2. Fill out one general application.
  3. Write a cover letter for each position for which you'd like to be considered. You may apply for as many positions as you'd like.
  4. Applications will be accepted December 15, 2010 - February 15, 2011.
  5. Submittal instructions are included in the application.

The Beatitudes Society, a project of the Tides Center, is an equal opportunity employer. We strongly encourage and seek applications from women, and people of color, including bilingual and bicultural individuals, as well as members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities.
