Faith in Public Life Fellowship
Prospective projects:
Research and updating for our online web tools including Poll Spot, the Faith Map and our daily Faith and Politics Newsreel. Research and writing for our blog, Bold Faith Type. Supporting our communications strategy team, including helping to build press lists, tracking press hits, and journalist outreach. Expanding FPL and Faithful America’s new media presence including updating Facebook and Twitter pages and helping to promote FPL’s blog in the wider blogosphere. Occasional research on issues FPL is working (such as climate change, torture, etc.). In addition, fellows are encouraged to be creative and “pitch” project ideas to FPL staff.
Skills needed:
Excellent communication and analytic skills, a high degree of media and political savvy, creativity, confidence and assertiveness, the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Special Opportunities:
We offer our fellows the opportunity to be almost fully integrated into staff, having the opportunity to work directly with senior staff members (including the Executive Director). FPL regularly invites interns and fellows to meetings and networking happy hours with key staff from allied organizations. Since almost all of FPL’s work is on behalf of other groups or in broad coalitions, fellows get a “bird’s eye view” of the progressive faith movement and get to know many other organizations besides FPL. Our Washington, DC location gives fellows the opportunity to attend press conferences, congressional hearings and other quintessential “Washington” events.
