Druid Hills United Methodist Church Fellowship
Description:
The DHUMC 2011 Fellow will work primarily at DHUMC but will also collaborate on a project with the Youth Theological Initiative (YTI).
Primary Project:
Druid Hills UMC envisions working with a Beatitude Fellow and the Youth Theological Initiative to plan a summer four to six week course emphasizing the important connection between personal devotion and social transformation. The goal is to help folks claim a genuine evangelical language while learning how to act and live prophetically. This course will be co-taught by Dr. Beth Corrie of the Youth Theological Initiative.
In addition to the course, we anticipate the fellow will work on:
• A youth mission project
• A project with YTI
• A church sponsored Intown Collaborative Ministries, an intensive ministry with homeless people. The fellow will help determine the feasibility of providing a winter shelter for women and children in our community
• Assisting the DHUMC part-time associate minister in developing a ministry to provide a safe and affirming community for children of gay couples
• Helping plan and lead worship services that liturgically connect personal devotion to the call for justice and righteousness
The fellow will be jointly supervised by Rev. Katie Akin, the part time associate minister at DHUMC and Dr. Beth Corrie of YTI.
