Catholics United Education Fund Fellowship

Description:
The identities of millions of Americans are shaped by Catholic social teachings on issues like war, health care, poverty, and the environment.  Catholics United believes that by activating this identity, we can engage Catholic progressives in the civic process, and ensure that our nation's public policies will better reflect the common good.
Our efforts allow small donations of time and money to be aggregated into a powerful force for political change.  Through online and offline activities, we create an outlet for the hopes and frustrations of many Catholic progressives, who often find their voices stifled by increasing attention to conservative “wedge” issues at the expense of social justice concerns.

The Communications and Organizing fellow will work closely with Catholics United national staff on a variety of projects related to empowering everyday Catholics in the church and in the broader community.

Fellowship Activities Will Include
•    Helping to coordinate online communications with members, including developing and sending email blasts to membership lists.
•    Working with activists to run local issue campaigns, including relevant work with media outlets.
•    Working with national activists to develop an open-source community blog to promote the Catholic social tradition; monitoring news trends, soliciting/editing relevant content, and approving/promoting user contributions.
•    Managing social media campaigns, communicating with Facebook groups and expanding to other social networks (Twitter, etc.) as necessary.
•    Monitoring incoming email from Catholics United members.

Supervision
The fellow will report to Catholics United political director James Salt, who will also serve as the fellow's mentor.  The two will work closely on relevant campaigns, and will meet for one hour per week to discuss fellowship goals and progress.

Unique opportunities:
In addition to performing regular job activities, the fellow will receive exposure to multiple aspects of Catholics United's 501(c)(3) work, including collaboration with other organizations, strategy planning, and meetings with progressive partners.
