Campaign for Better Health Care Fellowship
Description:
The Campaign for Better Health Care (CBHC), whose mission is to create and advocate for an accessible, quality health care system that is provides for all, is the largest health care advocacy coalition in Illinois. CBHC works on cutting edge issues including health care reform advocacy on a federal, state and local level.
The Obama administration has made health care reform a priority on a federal level; and changes in the health care system continue locally as well. In the summer of 2010, the City of Chicago appointed a new Public Health Commissioner, while new leadership was installed in the Cook County Health Care System. These changes have created opportunity for positive policy changes, and the Campaign for Better Health Care’s Faith Caucus – a statewide, interfaith network of congregations that assert the moral imperative of health care for all-- will continue to be active in moving comprehensive reform forward.
The 2011 Beatitudes Fellow will work directly with the Faith Caucus assisting with duties that include, but are not limited to the following: (a) planning, implementation and recruitment for trainings that teach people of faith how to work for health care justice, (b) planning and recruitment for the Faith Caucus’ monthly conference calls that update faith leaders on recent happenings in reform, (c) improving the Faith Caucus’ webpage with new and expanded content, (d) organizing fundraising and recruitment events for the Caucus, and/or (d) publicizing and preparation for the autumn Health Care Sabbath.

Candidates interested in outreach and advocacy are encouraged to apply.
Unique Opportunities Provided by this Fellowship
In working for the Campaign for Better Health Care, the Beatitudes Fellow will have the opportunity to spur congregations to health care justice advocacy at a time when leaders face historic decisions. In addition, the Fellow will have the opportunity to learn about the dynamics of nonprofit organizations and the political system. The Fellow will work with people of different faiths and cultures and will have the chance to interact with advocacy leaders.
