Jesus: Beyond Incarnation But Not Beyond Divine

Bishop Spong reports, "In my recent study leading to my book on life after death, Eternal Life: A New Vision, I had to move into a new and different understanding of the human experience of God.  The anthropomorphic images that are so deeply rooted in our theologically theistic past become less viable to me, and a new vocabulary becomes necessary to put the experience of God into different words.  Can we move beyond the theistic images of the past and yet not abandon the reality of the God experience?  I believe we can, and I will seek to develop these ideas in the morning seminar.

"If one's understanding of God changes, the traditional Christian claim that 'God was in Christ' will have to be shifted radically.  In the afternoon seminar I will seek to define divinity in a new way, and thus present a new vision of who Jesus is."
