Recovery Act Transparency – Implementation and Effectiveness
Panelists: Christopher Flavelle, ProPublica; Chris Keeley, Common Cause/New York; Paul Marchand, The Arc and UCP Disability Policy Collaboration; Phil Mattera, Good Jobs First; Maya Wiley, Center for Social Inclusion
In February 2009, Congress and the president made clear that the implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (commonly known as the Recovery Act or the stimulus bill) would be the most transparent of any spending legislation in the history of the country. Both demanded ambitious tracking and reporting of spending data, leading to the creation of a new website called Recovery.gov.
This panel will address the extent to which the groundbreaking transparency provisions of the Recovery Act have yielded data that is informative and useful to groups and individuals outside of government who are tracking this spending. The panel will also discuss changes that may be needed.
The panel presentations and discussion will run for 90 minutes, including time for questions from the in-person and online audiences.
