Play Debate Bingo

Submitted by stephanie wert ... on October 2, 2008 - 12:48am.

As a member of the online grassroots organization, MomsRising.org, I've been invited to play "Debate Bingo" tomorrow night.  This is a simple and helpful tool to help me listen carefully when candidates are speaking. I've become accustomed to listening with a critical ear to hear candidates speak to Beatitudes values, and committments to the ethic of life and to justice.  Tomorrow night I'm going to be listening with my MOM HAT ON as well.  Who scores better on the issues Moms care about (including those above)?  We'll see.

Want to play with me?  Check it out here.

EnVision Student TA Reflections

Submitted by stephanie wert ... on June 27, 2008 - 3:28pm.

This June, The Beatitudes Society sponsored several students as Teaching Assistants for EnVision: The Gospel, Politics, & the Future 2008 Conference, put on by Faith Voices for the Common Good. These students worked together with leading scholars, artists, activists, and pastors to support several learning tracks. Presented were a broad array of theological perspectives, all focused on one thing: Christian Engagement in the Public Square.

Here, read some of these students' reflections on their experiences:

Barbara Calvin - Wake Forest University Divinity School

My experience at the Envision conference was truly an experience. It was xciting to be part of a gathering that saw itself as helping to redefine the church for the 21st century. The diverse speakers and learning tracks is indicative of the movement throughout the Christian world that we MUST start
listening and learning from one another and come together to tackle the social justice issues of our time. This conference was not the end but one beginning of this listening and learning dialogue.
