African American Ministers Leadership Council Fellowship Description

Description of Work:

  • Research and identify developing issues and policy in regards to the five Task Force areas (Healthcare, Public Education, Civic Engagement, Equal Justice, and Economic Justice) featured in African American publications; monitor news stories in mainstream media reporting on these trends affecting the African American community.
  • Research and identify developing trends of Religious Right Wing groups featured in African American publications; monitor news stories in mainstream media reporting on these trends.
  • Create profiles for 10 – 12 Right Wing organizations working in the African American community, including tracking their funding, media stories, and possible links between them.
  • Assist in maintaining AARA member database, including adding and updating records.
  • Answer requests for material or information about AARA programs from members and the general public.
  • Help identify, prepare, develop and disseminate information and resources in preparation for department meetings, special presentations, trainings and conferences locally or in the field.
  • Send correspondence to member congregations by fax, email, and U.S. mail.

Skills Required:

  • Interest in coalition politics.
  • Some working knowledge or experience with African American outreach and/or communities of faith.
  • Some knowledge of Microsoft Access or similar database software preferred.
  • Clear and persuasive writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, an innovator and a good team player.
  • Interest in issues relating to the intersections of religion, values, and public policy
  • Willingness to learn, show initiative and creativity.
  • Strong commitment to social justice and People For the American Way’s issue agenda
